If I didn't have a billion things to do today, I'd be paving my NixOS system for Bluefin.

We have a lot of really cool CLI tools these days, but few have changed my workflow in such a way as Atuin. No there is Atuin desktop.

AI slows down experienced open-source developers by 19%. That indicates that AI is falling short in software development. Instead of taking over boring and pointless tasks, we are hindering our most expensive developers from doing their creative and engineering work.

For anyone in need of writing tests that compare long textual output, this is a game changer: goldenfile. It makes writing and maintaining these types of tests much easier.

It is strange how the EU advocates for open-source, but then is unwilling to put its money where its mouth is.

@Mer__edith about Signal and potential Chat Control in the EU:
“We would continue to operate as long as we could. Similar to how we do in Iran, similar to how we’ve done in response to being blocked in Russia, working with our community to set up proxies so that people who are within these regions have access to Signal. ”
Think about that! They might be forced to do in the EU what they did in Russia and Iran. https://english.elpais.com/technology/2025-09-14/signal-president-meredith-whittaker-in-technology-its-way-too-easy-for-marketing-to-replace-substance-thats-whats-happened-with-telegram.html

The old web was decentralized:

- Newsgroups
- Personal Websites
- Bulletin board
- Email as a service, not a platform
- Internet relay chat (IRC)
- Early blogs

Then corporations arrived with money and lock-in, turning the internet into centralized ad farms (Meta, X, TikTok). Users became consumers, trapped in algorithms, tracking, and enshittification. Revenue more important than people.
The Fediverse is a way back: no ads, no algorithms, no dark patterns. People first. A web worth reclaiming. And open source is the engine of this transformation.
Take back the web. Decentralize again 💪 Bring people to the Fediverse, promote open source, build decentralized and federated services.

Ok so our next mission is to prove that @homebrew casks can be useful on

So we're dogfooding it. We've been slowly moving away from the need to have dedicated dx images. Another good candidate would be the jetbrains toolbox.

Useful for IDEs that don't work well in and a ton of people use these on Macs so it's a common pattern. Nice.

From David Seymour’s statement of the DFW faults:

“While the FAA’s system integrator, L3 Harris, and telecommunications and data provider, Frontier Communications, have been working to restore service, it has not happened fast enough. In addition, we’ve all had a difficult time — including Robert and myself — reaching leadership at Frontier and L3 Harris. We are extraordinarily disappointed that neither provider seems to have any sense of urgency to resolve this matter.”

Spicy!

Elixir, Erlang, and Gleam: in-person in MoCo
Show content

If you’re interested in Elixir, Erlang, Gleam, or any other BEAM language, join us for our first in-person gathering in the DC area since before the pandemic. We’ll start with introductions, do some planning for future meetups, and have a bit of show-and-tell.

Depending on time and interest, we’ll wrap up by heading to a nearby restaurant for some casual socializing.

All experience levels welcome—whether you’re just curious about the BEAM or a long-time practitioner.

If you'd be making the trek from Northern Virginia, thanks for trying to make it! Seeing where people show up from will help guide us for where to hold future meetings.
