Ok so our next mission is to prove that @homebrew casks can be useful on

So we're dogfooding it. We've been slowly moving away from the need to have dedicated dx images. Another good candidate would be the jetbrains toolbox.

Useful for IDEs that don't work well in and a ton of people use these on Macs so it's a common pattern. Nice.

From David Seymour’s statement of the DFW faults:

“While the FAA’s system integrator, L3 Harris, and telecommunications and data provider, Frontier Communications, have been working to restore service, it has not happened fast enough. In addition, we’ve all had a difficult time — including Robert and myself — reaching leadership at Frontier and L3 Harris. We are extraordinarily disappointed that neither provider seems to have any sense of urgency to resolve this matter.”

Spicy!

Elixir, Erlang, and Gleam: in-person in MoCo
Show content

If you’re interested in Elixir, Erlang, Gleam, or any other BEAM language, join us for our first in-person gathering in the DC area since before the pandemic. We’ll start with introductions, do some planning for future meetups, and have a bit of show-and-tell.

Depending on time and interest, we’ll wrap up by heading to a nearby restaurant for some casual socializing.

All experience levels welcome—whether you’re just curious about the BEAM or a long-time practitioner.

If you'd be making the trek from Northern Virginia, thanks for trying to make it! Seeing where people show up from will help guide us for where to hold future meetings.

Great talk on the Fediverse this morning at the NoVaLUG meeting.

Here is a link to the Mobilizon instance I mentioned: https://mobilizon.us/

And I got a question about GoodReads but for the Fediverse. A quick search as revealed Bookwyrm: https://github.com/bookwyrm-social/bookwyrm

One of the things I don't like about the rdap client I maintain is that the text output is great for viewing the information but not so good with cut-n-paste. So I started hunting around for a text serialization format that works with serde, and really the only one (other than JSON) is YAML. So I tried it. Yuck. It was too verbose.

The alternative is to create a custom text serialization, and that sound awful. So I thought, why not RPSL? And well... I have started down that path. There is a good bit of custom logic in doing this as RPSL mixes object type / role / contact kind into one attribute name. But the format is good for conciseness and readability.

Of course, RFC 9537 redactions start causing problems, but there will just need to be some more custom logic for that. Ugh.

Who has two thumbs and native #ipv6? This guy! Yeah, not much of a brag in 2025, but now my IP is 96 bits more secure according to the marketing brochure.

HUH!? Since when does the gateway of a network not allowed to be the first address of the network. I have been racking my brain on why an #openwrt config wasn't working only to find that things like iphones, ipads, smart tvs don't like the net gateway to be the first address (e.g. 172.16.0.0). Naturally, Linux has no problem with this.
