The old web was decentralized:
- Newsgroups
- Personal Websites
- Bulletin board
- Email as a service, not a platform
- Internet relay chat (IRC)
- Early blogs
Then corporations arrived with money and lock-in, turning the internet into centralized ad farms (Meta, X, TikTok). Users became consumers, trapped in algorithms, tracking, and enshittification. Revenue more important than people.
The Fediverse is a way back: no ads, no algorithms, no dark patterns. People first. A web worth reclaiming. And open source is the engine of this transformation.
Take back the web. Decentralize again 💪 Bring people to the Fediverse, promote open source, build decentralized and federated services.

andyThe alternative is to create a custom text serialization, and that sound awful. So I thought, why not RPSL? And well... I have started down that path. There is a good bit of custom logic in doing this as RPSL mixes object type / role / contact kind into one attribute name. But the format is good for conciseness and readability.
Of course, RFC 9537 redactions start causing problems, but there will just need to be some more custom logic for that. Ugh.

We are a curious, informal, and friendly mix of IT professionals, hobbyists, students, and others with an interest in Linux, Free and Open Source software, and open knowledge. The Northern Virginia Linux Users Group (NoVaLUG) is the oldest LUG in the Northern VA area and likely in the whole of US, established in 1993.
