@toxy yeah, they have a ton of "slop not accepted" and "we hate AI" and then there's the slop they were caught committing and the dev running through the standard catalogue of excuses

@davidgerard For fuck’s sake. I’ve still got a Proton subscription till June and Tuta was recommended. I don’t hate myself enough (at least not yet) to run my own email server so where do I go now?

@toxy @davidgerard @neurovagrant since I was just at an email security conference, I asked the CEO of @fastmail about their AI policy. It's not a strict policy of "no", but they do fully review everything. I'm leaning on migrating to them despite no encryption at rest bc they're leading the charge on a lot of specs (like DKIM 2).

@neurovagrant @adamhotep @toxy @davidgerard @fastmail the fastmail people are very involved in the standards community. They are very solid peeps.

@fastmail @neurovagrant @adamhotep @davidgerard @toxy huh? I hope you have receipts. They are like 80 people spread across 3 countries. What union is organizing their workers?

@andy @davidgerard @adamhotep @toxy @fastmail they're only workers if fastmail doesn't fire them for organizing

which it sounds like it did, receipts in subsequent post

As usual, 2 sides to every story:
https://www.reddit.com/r/fastmail/comments/1do3ede/fastmail_just_lays_off_60_of_their_unions/

I get why the union is unhappy about what happened, but Fastmail's side of the story seems reasonable too. Given that they do have unionized employees to this day, calling them union busters seems a tad extreme. No matter what, layoffs suck. I hope those people found jobs.

@andy @davidgerard @adamhotep @toxy @fastmail I don't like that the whole bargaining committee got the axe, that seems intentful.

However, it's fair to say that there is some merit in their response, and the severance negotiated was generous in my experience.

@neurovagrant @andy @adamhotep @toxy @fastmail lol I have no hesitation in calling this blatant union busting union busting, and will continue to do so

i mean, fucking what

@davidgerard @neurovagrant @andy @toxy
I'm no expert on union-busting, but I have seen it in action. This consisted of hiring union-busting firms, meddling with the creation of the union, and/or bullying to break it up.

If @fastmail still has unionized employees, doesn't that prove they're not union-busters? I can certainly attest to how difficult it is to have people in non-overlapping TZs.
